    CCTV Inspections

    March 21, 2022 / by AirX Utility Surveyors Inc / 0 Comment

    Video Inspection System (CCTV):

Sanitary sewer service laterals comprise around 50% of a sewer collection system; account for up to 80% of the inflow. Sewer laterals flow into collectors, which flow into trunk sewers and ultimately sewer interceptors.  The health of the sewer system is monitored through the use of CCTV (Closed Circuit Television), which is inserted into pipes as Push Cameras and wheel or tractor-driven cameras.  Inspections are made, and videos are recorded reflecting the condition.  AIRX are trained in and follow the NASSCO guidelines for sanitary and storm drain inspection:

    • Identify the size and material of construction.
    • General structural condition and defects
    • Evidence of inflow & infiltration
    • Identify potential blockages and damages from construction
    • Locate service laterals and buried maintenance holes.
    • Locate obstructions, such as roots, grease, debris, and cross-bores

    The Equipment

CCTV equipment consists of a remotely operated camera mounted on a transporter, a self-propelled robotic crawler connected by a cable to a video monitor in the truck, up to 1100 ft away.  A secondary camera has the ability to feed into a service lateral performing a lateral inspection. In addition, AIRX uses equipment manufactured by IBAK and Cues and has several push cameras for inspections in pipe sizes less than 6 inches.  Cameras on both the truck-mounted and push camera systems have sondes that broadcast a signal that can be detected at the surface, allowing for surface mark out of the subsurface system.
